There’s no way to say this without inciting an untold number of screams: BTS is headed to Orlando. The septet out of Seoul is making Camping World Stadium one of the venues they hope to sell out on the Map of the Soul Tour.
There is something close to ironic about a boy band from another country exciting the residents of O-Town, the city that gave rise to Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC and, oh yeah, O-Town. But maybe being familiar with the style will make us even more welcoming of this K-pop sensation.
And it isn’t like the South Korean superstars don’t differ from our variety of dance pop ensembles. First of all, there are seven of them, two more than the traditional Orlando boy band.
But probably the biggest draw is the fact that BTS write much of their own music, with a focus not so much on being cool as on positive ways of dealing with personal issues.
BTS will play Camping World Stadium on May 14. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 7. For prices and details, head to ticketmaster.com.
