An inmate at the Okeechobee Correctional Institution escaped from a work camp Thursday afternoon, prompting a multi-county police search, according to a report by TCPalm.

Timothy Howton-McLaughlin, 28, may be driving a white 1995 Ford F-150 pickup with the license plate DC7636.

Law enforcement officials are focusing their search on the Treasure and Space Coasts, but residents further inland in Osceola and Polk counties may notice a heightened law enforcement presence, the report said.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Howton-McLaughlin is serving an eight-year sentence for burglary and trafficking in stolen property.
